In The Craft in Action Marquee
Recycling Workshopsby A Litter of Leaves.
Tim and Jules Simmons will be heading up a series of recycling workshops throughout the Show including the creation of a huge 12m tree collage - A Litter of Leaves.
This exciting and innovative structure will consist of recycled materials and rubbish found on the show site to illustrate the importance of trees to the environment whilst raising awareness and publicising responsibility for the recovered litter.
For the past few years Jules and Tim have led a series of recycling workshops on current ecological issues, challenging the many participants to look more closely at what is affecting their environment, highlighting the 3 Rs: reduce, reuse, recycle. They have made recycled drums to explore the plight of children whose role it is to sort rubbish (as seen in the film Slumdog Millionaire); made seagull sculptures out of plastic bags and kitchen equipment to raise awareness about the way these items litter our shores and harm wildlife; made beach combing installations to illustrate the impact of plastic on the turtles and dolphins who are unable to identify the danger in eating man-made objects, made clocks out of boat portholes…and much more besides……. come and find them in the Craft In Action Marquee and see what they are getting up to now!

Free Talks Ongoing All Day Friday - Sunday
The Taste Experience with The Southern Co-operative
As one of the largest independent food retailers in the South, Southern
Co-operatives strongly believes that they should make every effort to provide
locally sourced and produced products for our customers in as many stores
as possible. By sourcing their products locally and having them delivered
direct from producer to store, they aim to:
- Provide the freshest possible food for our customers... in many cases
literally from field to table within 48 hours.
- Reduce the food miles accrued when buying nationally and internationally, therefore helping the environment by reducing carbon emissions produced
when transporting food.
- Support local businesses and protect Island jobs. Over the last decade,
small growers and producers have struggled to compete in a market dominated by both national and international suppliers.
- By stocking locally sourced products in their stores, they are helping to ensure these businesses can operate successfully alongside the big companies.
Put something positive back into the community they live and work in. As a local independent retailer, maintaining a close relationship with the stores' communities is at the heart of their business's values.
